MagSafe Made Me a Believer in Wireless Charging
I’ve owned various phones with Qi wireless charging over the past decade, but wireless charging sucked. It was a novelty without real practicality. But MagSafe has converted me into a believer.
What originally turned me off wireless charging was the inconsistency. I bought the Google Nexus 4 on release day, which came with Qi charging. But it was slow, and positioning the phone correctly was a PITA. Often, it didn’t charge at all, and even when it did, the snails pace charging made it almost pointless.
Then Apple came out with the MagSafe system. Wireless charging was finally seamless, and something I use every day. To clarify, I’m not actually using Apple’s MagSafe directly. I use a Quad Lock magnetic case and wireless charger. However, without Apple’s adoption of MagSafe, this setup wouldn’t be possible. My experience is ultimately tied to Apple’s innovation.
Even the coolest advancements struggle to gain traction if they’re not foolproof. I’m generally willing to put up with some quirks in my tech, but wireless charging never won me over until magnetic alignment was introduced. Now, I can simply place my phone on the charger, and it works effortlessly, every time.
Apple deserves some credit for solving the major point with wireless charging…alignment. By making wireless charging intuitive, they turned a gimmick into something useful.
